Box Score HAMMOND, Ind. -- The Purdue Northwest women's volleyball team earned its second victory of the season over the St. Francis Fighting Saints (7-17) Tuesday night in a non-conference match on John Friend Court. Senior Jenna Pasko (Lansing, Ill./T.F. South) led the Pride with 11 kills, while Brooke Carter (Chicago, Ill./King College Prep) set a career-high after hitting a .625.
A major key tonight for PNW was serving the ball, as they had double-digit service aces for the first time in more than a month. Jenna Dal Santo (St. John, Ind./Andrean) led the way for the Pride with four service aces of her own, which ties her career-high. Senior Kylie Tincher (Sellersburg, Ind./Rock Creek Academy) added three aces of her own.
PNW fell behind early in the first set, as USF took an 11-9 lead on an attack error from Dal Santo. The Black and Gold would mount a ferocious comeback and close out the first set on a Fighting Saint ball handling error. PNW had an impressive 14 kills in the set and hit .265 overall.
The second set was back and forth, with both teams going on runs before a Taylor Valant kill made it 20-20. Carissa Jones was able to get two more kills and the Pride closed it out with a double block from a pair of freshmen: Dal Santo and Annie Pulizos (Greendale, Wis./Greendale) to win set #2 25-23.
The third set was all Purdue Northwest, as they hit an astounding .435 with 13 kills. After winning the first four points, St. Francis fired back and tied it up 8-8. The Black and Gold then thundered back and won seven consecutive points, punctuated by two kills and a block from Pulizos. PNW completed the sweep on a kill from Carissa Jones (Whiting, Ind./Bishop Noll).
Next up, the Pride will host a pair of GLIAC foes this weekend: Michigan Tech this Friday, October 5th and Northern Michigan on Saturday, October 6th from the Westville campus.
